It is highly unusual for a so-called “mainstream media” outlet to cover a story involving successful defensive firearm(s) use, but today at least ABC covered this news as a potential victim became a probable lifesaver as events unfolded. A doctor at the Pennsylvania hospital retrieved his own firearm and engaged the armed assailant with something that generally makes the latter very uncomfortable: return fire. The local police chief stated that “without a doubt, I believe the doctor saved lives.”
Of course, this could simply have been an unforeseeable result of ABC’s covering the incident when it was just another “madman shooter” story prior to the doctor’s actions becoming apparent. By then, too late, a self-defense narrative inherently became part of the story.
