President Trump, that supposed protector of the Constitution, bulwark against Leftist encroachments, Clinton-slayer, and Drainer of Swamps, recently rejected the notion of Fifth Amendment Due Process protections while simultaneously appearing to embrace a Second Amendment-infringing position, in declaring “I like taking guns away early. Take the guns first, go through due process second.”
His ironic right to hold and express this opinion notwithstanding, this is a fundamentally illegal practice, were it to ultimately be implemented. And of course, he appears to fully embrace the notion of due process for those accused of sexual harassment and domestic violence:
Peoples [sic] lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation. Some are true and some are false. Some are old and some are new. There is no recovery for someone falsely accused – life and career are gone. Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process? (Emphasis added.)
Hypocrisy is an inherent characteristic of those who lack principles. And this particular brand of political hypocrisy is, unsurprisingly, not a peculiarly partisan trait.
I keep saying this, but apparently the American electorate is just hardheaded (or they just like it): there is no substantively fundamental difference between Left statism and Right statism. These candidates and politicians are basically all the same. They all want the same thing: ultimate power to discretionarily dispense political violence in pursuit of their own ends.
They may use slightly different arguments to convince you of this utility, but in the end they all want to determine what we can do/cannot do, what we can say/cannot say, and what we can think/cannot think.
The Right and Left Wings both support the oligarchical vulture of tyranny.
