Who Wants To Pay More Taxes?

Well, according to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) of Nevada, everyone.  Except congressional Republicans, of course:

The only people who feel there shouldn’t be more coming in to the federal government from the rich people are the Republicans in the Congress,” Reid told the radio host, according to Roll Call.  “Everybody else, including the rich people, are willing to pay more.  They want to pay more (emphasis added).

It is difficult to say where the senator is getting his allegedly insightful information from, but I do not personally know a single person – Democrat, Republican, or otherwise, and none of whom are even a progressive’s definition of rich – that “wants” to pay more taxes to this oligarchy than they already have to.  (This includes people who already pay no taxes at all).  For those true “patriots” that hypothetically wish to do so (including Mr. Magnanimous himself), the means already exist to put their money where their mouths are.

I know Harry Reid was once a boxer… I wonder if this space cadet is sometimes displaying symptoms of Rocky Balboa syndrome.

There is a serious hypocrisy among people who claim that tax rates should be progressive and yet these same people seek to use every loophole and deduction to avoid the taxes they advocate. Why not have a simple flat tax and have capital gains taxed on a sliding scale?
